[#3984] 27M 600 ohms is very tough for the 27M ________________________________________ Tough is too humble a word. I had used Audionote M3 with balance out to drive the V69 and that was not as good.

[#3985] 27M Dr King, CP, Timtube, Hons or any brothers with experience in passive pre and buffer amp As you may probably aware, I am using a Linn ss phono feeding to TX-102 TVC passive pre then followed by a Graaf GM20 / QUAD II amp driving ESL57. To me, the sound is acceptable (also no difference in terms of dynamic between passive and active pre if using CD. It's only slightly less when using phono source) but I just wish to add a little bit more so-called the "dynamic" if possible. Would you recommend me to add a tube buffer such as Eastern Electric BBA or Musical Fidelity X-10 v3 etc? Any comment? Dennis

[#3986] 27M I forgot to mention three points: 1) the loudness is more than enough even when playing LP. 2) the dynamic is OK when playing LP, I just wish to have slighly more in low frequency region. 3) When playing Chinese DVD source, I switch the TVC volume between 8:30am to 11:00am. For LP phono source, I have to switch between 11:00am and 2:30 pm. Any comment on putting a buffer between passive pre and OTL amp?

[#3987] Impedance Matching Dear scholars and good friends, Just wish to cap the input/output impedance of my current major amplification components for your quick reference when commenting on the matching: 1) Linn Linto: input impedance = 150 ohms output impedance = 114 ohms across the band other than at very low frequencies, where it rose to 228.5 ohms. 2) S&B TX-102 TVC passive preamp N/A 3 Graaf OTL GM20 input impedance = 50K ohms output impedance = 8 - 16 ohms Any need to place a buffer between the pre and power amp to improve the dynamic without trade-off? Thanks in advance Dennis

[#3988] 27M Denis, The BBA is not a typical buffer as it has also very large and variable gain. But it was indeed designed to match very low input impedance such as the 600ohm input of the Telefunken V69. I would be of great interest to try the Easter n Electric BBA in your system with and without the TVC. How about this weekend? Tim

[#3989] 27M Dear Tim. It would be my honour again meeting your BBA. Patrick has helped me to remount the ESL's dust cover, so we should be able to testify the dynamic of TVC using BBA to ESL's full strength. Will you be free on coming Saturday morning or aternoon? I shall send my mobile to your PM for contact. Dennis

[#3990] BBA + TVC Dennis, The pleasure will be all mine. Saturday afternoon is better for me. Can I bring a couple of my friends who also tried the Music First TVC with BBA along? Tim

[#3995] BBA + TVC Dear Tim, The Graaf GM20 requires 4 x 6CC6-B, 2 x 6dj6 and 4 EF184 for operation. It will take quite a while to heat up the amp for proper bias setting time. To enble more listening time for, shall we focus tube changing on BBA and some peanut tubes for GM20?

[#3997] BBA + TVC dkyyu, The power tubes should be 6C33c, or 6C33c-B. ![]()

[#3998] BBA + TVC I know very little about 6C33c and the choice is probably limited. I got a few EF184 inside one of my B&O receiver/amp but I also do not keep any spare. Your amp should use 6DJ8/6922 as input buffer and phase splitter and I can bring a few of those to try this Sat.

[#3999] BBA + TVC the choice is probably limited ___________________________________ There is no choice, only 1 factory that makes them. The only choice is by tube tester amongst a batch. I find those with the CCCP logo much more reliable.

[#4000] BBA + TVC Dear CP and Tim, Just wish to learn, are we able to test match 6C33C-B using AVO tester? Or we need modern equipment instead?

[#4001] BBA + TVC CP, Please check PM. I am really happy with the TVC and single GM20 after 20 hours burn-in. They are getting better and better even my mother-in-law could hear the improving quality. I am really curious to hear the effect of bridged mono GM20 or even go deeper to GM200. Can CP or Feikeung or any experienced user tell me the difference between double GM20 and GM200? Dennis

[#4002] Graaf GM 200 The GM 200 is a gem. However, trying to get 16pcs matched PL504 TV tubes (per channel) to work properly can open a big can of worms. I gave up on anything employing more than 4 tubes per channel after my Audio Research Classic 120 (8 x 6550 per channel in triode mode) blew up 15 years ago. I would personally not touch the GM 200 with a ten-foot pole unless I had access to a continuous supply of military grade replacement tubes. It’s a pity because GM 200 can work wonders if all the design conditions are met --- no easy task indeed!!!

[#4003] Graaf GM 200 Dear Feikeung, It's great hearing your experience and sharing. You are damn right, my other fear is that the GM200 requires over 40 tubes and the heat (800W when idle) may impose serious overheating problem in ordinary living room like mine. If overcome, it could be the final answer to some of us to conquer the power hungry Maggie 3.5 or her six feet sister. CP, Hard decision to us.
