No, the sound of HQD did excite me very much, by that time the performance was unbeatable. The DQ alone still OK but not as rich. No need guessing, you may ask HiFi senior (Godfather) does the combination of different type of driving units work OK under Electronic crossover.

No need to wonder how the phasing and speed of different drivers work together. After you try it you will understand. Also, Mark Levinson is not crazy, his dreaming is always pioneer. Actually I gain a lot of fun in carrying out his crazy ideas.

The DQ should sound in better manner or not will be very clear after you have built up your own DQ.

SME's boss once putting up sixteen ESL one side on photo. I guess he understand very well that the bass produced from ESL is proportional to the area of the driving panels

Now, I think it is hard to find anybody in HK still running a pair of the HQD system at home. But I remember one senior Mr. NG in Macau may be still using one similar system. His DQ is replaced by a pair of Acoustat.

No doubt about that. Albeit I'm an atheist, I was brought out in a catholic school and did learn something about Jesus, by force at that time. I'm just querying the validity of the inference, or implicitly denying, that something is extraordinary by drawing an analogy to some unrelated common feature of a big man as Jesus Christ.

I am an atheist too and perhaps this analogy was not as suitable, but my comment was simply referring to limage's question about the size of Master Liu's place. If he doesn't want to waste his own time, then perhaps neither does Master Liu.

Anyhow, like you said, hearing is believing. It would be nice to hear what you think of the ESLs in a perhaps better environment (you mentioned that you have already seen them in Wanchai, right?).

I am afraid you have grossly misunderstood my question. Mr. Liu’s major business concern, I suppose, lies north of the border. It is not unreasonable, therefore, that he keeps only a management office in HK. This has become very much the norm nowadays.

My concern is to be able to hear the true potential of the speakers worthy of the acclaimed transparency of the electrostatics. If the listening environment is far from ideal, like what we had in the audio show, it would certainly be unfair to the speakers as well as to the possible conclusion we may have drawn from our poor experiences.

1. First of all, it might not be nice to hear my review comments as I am notorious to be too cynical;

2. I've never mentioned I've seen the King's ESL in Wanchai. In fact, I am at a loss not being able to make it in the audio show the other day. I must be the first one to make an enquiry to the agent in Kwun Tong for an audition months ago by which time they could only arrange to be heard in China. Patrick has kindly called after the show with words of consolation that I haven't missed anything as the speakers were awful. I trust limage's and Patrick's appraisals more than anything as they respectively presented the best planar and ESL sound;

3. Most of the planar and ESL owners here were interested in the King's ESL as a possible replacement to their vintages. Yet we all know that a right listening environment is more important than anything else for these dipole speakers for an impartial appraisal. I'm sure our intended visit to Mr. Liu is not a courteous or casual home visit as to other R33 members that we normally have, but an opportunity for the agent to showcase their products to a group of serious and knowledgeable potential customers. It is the first I heard a business that doesn't want to "waste his time" with his potential customers. Does he really want to distract people to think that "if they only had a little humility, they would be perfect".

I was not in fact questioning “the size of Master Liu’s place” - he may well have an enormous office in HK but the biggest warehouse is likely to be elsewhere in Mainland China. There are however good reasons to suspect he may not even have a decent showroom in HK, because we were advised to go to Guanzhou if we wanted to hear his speakers months ago.

Talking about room size, I tend to believe that the general lack of definition of the Emperor at the audio show was due ironically not to the lack of space, but rather too much of it.

Please be a good help to the other field’s audiophiles.You are a senior audiophile, from all the response of all your friends in review 33. They all respect your opinions in setting up HiFi combination and according to your bingo point out

I believe all audiophiles in HK will be most grateful if you can make some valuable suggestion to King's Audio how to achieve better performance under the same size exhibition room. Hence we can share better performance of Emperor ESL even though it is quite lovely this year.
For I personally hope King's Audio would join the show in next year and I hope under you, your friends’ and other wise audiophiles’ valuable suggestion, we can hear something better than this year's show.
We all are Hong Kong HiFi enthusiast; I believe you, your friends and all HK Audiophiles should be most happy to listen to something produced in HK that sounds good. ‘ENCOURAGE’

I got pretty confused. Is this King's ESL a HK product or a mainland China product; or the so called designed in HK and made in China or developed in HK etc. etc............ Anyone care to clarify before a provincialism partiality is correctly used here.

Can the manufacturer, if so happened to browse through this thread, care to properly introduce the product here such as the principle or technology employed to produce the electrostatic, the thickness or materials of the diaphragm and stator, the advantage of this over other types of ESLs etc. rather than through some "friends of the manufacturer" giving some unctuous introductions.

As a matter of fact, King’s Audio has found the right persons to launch his product: condefly and yoda are veteran audiophiles who know what they are doing. What remained was that the place was simply too big to handle.

We are happy with good Chinese product, is there any different designed in HK and made in China or developed in HK etc. etc............

All your questions will be clear after reading.
By the way, I'm just an old man who likes HiFi, dear young man, please look for the potential of any HiFi components. They are all designed for home use. Even though they sound good or bad in the showroom or your friends' house, they may be different under your well cared effort.
By the way, have you listened to the 'Emperor' during the show? Lucky I spent two days and listened three times. Every time the performance improved a lillte bit, I believe King’s people have heart in HiFi and doing good jobs. I really enjoy it and still the word ‘ENCOURAGE’

Don't you think i have not carefully read through every word in the website, including the product and review(news) pages before I made my request for more information, otherwise how could I have quoted a piece of review and have known that the JoLida amps cost 8 grands US. It doesn't tell you much about the speakers except the freq. response, physical dimensions etc. Even in the review pages I haven't seen a word on the construction and working of the speakers; mostly on the outlook and even rarely on the sound other than some general descriptions like "big" and "dynamic"..........

I might not be as well-informed as you are about the speakers, may be by conde and Yoda in the show but certainly not very happy with the limited information on hand.

Since you brought up provincialism to solicit support in the first place, I might as well ask for some clarifications before giving the support. I myself have nothing against provincialism if not encourage it as I am also a local manufacturer, not in the field of HiFi though. And I have to declare my prejudice that I do have bad experience with Chinese products in general.

Thanks for telling me that you are senior as we don't know each other but I am too old to be called a young man by people of any age group. This type of "let me tell you what young man" doesn't work on me anymore many years ago. And thanks for your encouragement to exploit the potential of every hifi component, yet you haven't known how I exhaust my effort to squeeze every drop of juice out of them. At the least I have proved to the master that the Spica TC-1 have enough bass when the speakers were adamantly called "no arse", albeit that the speaker is only regarded as a piece of shit in my collection.

I do welcome you to this thread but hope you could more explicitly declare your interest in King'Audio, if any, as you seem to be defending the brand with no spare effort, albeit in a very tactful way.

Thanks drwkng.......It is good news for me. At least I know the other caps I have installed into the ESL63 were accurate. I don't know what's wrong w/my Fluke. The operation menu says "Capacitance measurement range from 0.001 nF to 50 mF" which should well cover the cap of 12-13 pF.

I have no urgent need for the caps on hand with you. May be you can hand them back to me next time I see at the end of this month.
