Don't be silly. The input impedance of the TVC is high enough for anything and the output impedance low enough to drive anything.

Background

The original Music First Audio Passive magnetic Preamplifier offered a previously unheard level of sonic transparency. It was launched in 2003 and received glowing reviews across the international Hi Fi press. The Music First Preamplifier holds the following prestigious awards:

Hi Fi News Awards 2004 'Editors Choice' January 2005; Hi Fi News Awards 2005 'Preamplifier of the year' November 2005; Positive Feedback Online 'Writers Choice' Award 2005; Six Moons 'Best of 2005' Award; Hi Fi News Awards 2006 'Preamplifier of the year' November 2006 (the first time in the magazine's fifty year history that any product has won twice) and Hi Fi World Awards 2006 'Preamplifier of the year' January 2007.

Our reference model builds on this success. The result of three years of research and development, coupled with thirty plus years of world class transformer design, no aspect has been left to chance. Every component and each material has been chosen specifically for its properties and performance in this application. We have listened to the comments of our many satisfied customers and we have listened to every option and component. We proudly present our new reference level preamplifier.

Oops! Unfortunately the TVC is almost purely inductive. In that case, Dennis, I think you will have to put in the BBA.

This kind of MPP core usually have 80% Ni, 2% Mo & rest of Fe which mainly used for inductors and transformers requiring the low losses and inductance stablility under high DC bias conditions.

Very good in high freq. but not really in mid to low freq.

If some of the Quad thread people value what they say, they should mind their words.

--Use the word "transparency" carefully, so as not the whole world laughs at you.

--Don;t ever promote, for anyone's purpose, so-called tube buffers, any brand. They only degrade the sound, considerably. Totall bullshit. Only for deaf people.

CP,

Does it mean no transformer along the entire audio path? Should I remove the TVC and simply use an active preamp for the Moodlab?

I have since given up using such word. There are so many synonyms to use that wouldn't put me into trouble. :-)

> .....so as not the whole world laughs at you.

The nice thing about “audio”, as a hobby, is that it can be self-sustained so it’s perfect for socially inadequate individuals like yours truly who enjoy doing things on their own and don’t care about how the rest of the world looks at them. Trying to keep up with the Joneses is the source of unhappiness (不快樂的泉源). I hate competitive sports because I don’t, or probably can not, compete. A lot of activities or relationships have requirements and are dependent upon acceptance by others. Being unsightly, not having deep pockets, not having much between my legs and being intrinsically different character wise, I have never been popular with the opposite sex, or the same sex, for that matter. I found it very frustrating and threw up my hands in despair before I hit 30. I then resorted to buying sex on the street and using escort services as my business became “successful”. I was afraid of rejection and consistently tipped the girls much more than the going rate, not in the naïve hope that they would like me but just to want them to remember me as a good customer so they would not treat me like a scum bag upon my next visit. I was still not happy and I did not understand why. It was not until I turned 50 a couple of years ago that I began to seen the light, and everything in perspective. Going back to this audio thing: unlike a lot of other human activities, it requires no perquisites. Even audiophiles who don’t have a good sense of music can derive pleasure polishing their gear in the middle of the night, or buying NOS tubes on eBay ----- things not even remotely related to music. ENJOYMENT OF MUSIC IS NOT THE ONLY GOAL. Different strokes for different folks. Chance are if I had the physical appearance and grandeur of Kris I would probably be fucking my brains out every single night instead of listening to my Discman in massage parlors while having the girls tickle the bottom of my feet. It just happens that I don’t have the qualities that Kris has so I have to make do with my Discman and Sennheiser. And the most important thing is I don’t aspire to have the qualities that Kris has --- The Big Fellow Upstairs gives us different gifts and we’ll have to learn to live within our limitations in order not to be unhappy.

feikeung,

Are you echoing my writing on the LS3/5a thread which drwkng has kindly reminded me to be careful? So at least I have your and JC's support and not that vulnerable though. :-)

"I know this is going to be controversial but I become more and more convinced that the hifi hobby and music appreciation are 2 sets which only have a small part of intersection. There are so many aspects in the hifi hobby, to some the joy of diying, others the sheer exhilaration of the illusion of accurate sound reproduction, and to even more the pleasure of ownership. There are equally many different aspects in music appreciation, the virtuosity of performance, the passion in the music language, the theory of composing and the study of musicology, just to name some. There is no one superior to the other.

I am also a collector of watches and fountain pens, but that doesn't make me a chronometrist nor a calligrapher to any extent."

JC,

G'die mike. Bon voyage. Time to get use to the Aussie.

I remember this story : a young american soldier sitting in a bar in Baghdad, totally depressed and frustrated. He doesn't know what he's come for, doesn't have the faintest idea of why there's a war in the first place and worst still, he has just lost his best friend in the troop. Sitting next to him is this Aussie bloke who is always cheerful and energetic, raising his glass to everybody. He noticed this weeping american soldier and said, "Hello mike, what's up? Cheer up fella!" The american murmurred, "I come here to die". "No worry, mike. I came here yester-die. I can show you around", said the Aussie.

Sounds pretty much like your dialogue with feikeung.:-) You are always the cheerful guy. Please do show me around when I will be back to the down-under. I understand the city has changed a lot.

All the best.

[#4622] Letter to feikeung........

Dearest feikeung,

No question about it, I am a pervert and a sex slave.

But make no mistake, we all pay for it one way or another. I remember seeing in a John Hopkins survey years ago, great number of men got married thinking they can fuck their wives 24 / 7. The study shows after the first couple years (months in some cases!), there's really not much "heat" happening in the pan ( the farm is closed!) and many of these men ended up buying sex on the street at the end of the day. Except what worse is that, now they have a huge financial burden of supporting a family. And in a case of a sex-less marriage, it adds up to tremendous stress. So therefore, they need to go out looking for more (or better) services and gladly pay the " wages of sin"....

The part you wrote about the peace and joy from "audio" as a hobby is so, so true! Just the other night, I slept really well knowing that all my "valves" in my VTL are running stable and nothing is broken (or needs fixing) - what happy thoughts! But there's one thing I like to add: in both audio gear or buying sex on the street- higher price not necessary brings better value. I know that for a fact!

feikeung, I admire your writing very much, always have. You have such deliciously dark sarcasm with great humor. But most of all, it's your sincerity that wins the heart of your readers, myself included. After years of living alone and abroad, I am not big on popularity and will never fit in those shoes. I only seek comfort knowing that I am not the only "pervert" around and that there may be others like me in Hong Kong - what happy thought.

ps: I lost my discman in a massage parlor.
