[#604] Quad ESL Thanks for CP, brother Wah, Edmond and Dennis' help to make the pre-listening session possible yesterday. I unpluged the ESL and dismantled the Arcici stand a day before. Hence it was totally drained. The sound quality was not as good at the begining but back to normal operation half hour later. However, either sound quality or imaging were less than satisfactory. It was too boomy and I didn't see any sound stage at all! After all the hard work we tried, about an hour later, I started to re-gain some of the emotional feel and the much sharper image. But all of us were still not quite happy until CP hooked up his V72/73. My goodness! The difference was just like day and night. I quote Dennis' description of the sound of my Quicksilver as "Sounded like the guy didn't get his paycheck". The ESL performed at it's best when the height was adjusted to 14" from the floor. It reproduced beautiful bass as well as crystal clear highs. mid range was satsational. I managed to re-capture the image I got in my previous listening room. I believe the ESL can even achieve it's very best if time and space is allowed for further fine tune of position placement. What a deifference it made only by lowering the height by 3". I was wrong in the past for mounting the ESL57 at the highest position of my Arcici which was 17" from the floor. Thanks to CP. It is really a magic 14! Everyone agreed that the v72/73 is the perfect match for ESL57. The definition was so fine and so detail and yet full of emotion. Any one wanted to buy a pair of Quicksilver!? The only thing I like to mention is, it was a bit cram for 5 people squeezed in a room of 11"x10". But that is the biggest room available unless I want to use their banquet hall which will be too large. I will try my living room next after my better-half go on a trip which will be the middle of July. Regards

[#614] Quad ESL JL, I will report to school before 7 Aug. Now I am busy packing my stuffs as I will move out pretty soon. Will check the 12.1 and see if they are still in working condition before bringing them to you. Lucky that I couldn't get the ESL57, otherwise I will have trouble to store them well. Still very tempted to buy gears even though I know I will be leaving soon ...

[#618] Quad ESL Mike Many thanks for entrusting me with your precious gear. I have decided not to come of my retirement at the present stage despite some job offers. So I will have a lot of free time for a while. Actually, we may consider organizing another SZ trip before you go. JL

[#620] Quad ESL cp, I took delivery last night and the seller, Anthony, is really a nice gentleman. The condition of both ESL he sold me was completely exceeding my expectation, a real gem. Without giving a try, I believe both ESL should operate and sound perfectly well simply by judging their mint condition. WIth help from Edmund, we were just able to tuck up two big boxes in my hatchback. The Rupert stands come with the ESL, is genuine component. There are two screws at rear corners for adjusting the tilting angle. AFter a quick look today, the serial numbers are both 34K indicating they are the late 70s to 80s version and both are in mint condition after full upgrade by One Thing Audio. Meanwhile I put the two big boxes in my living room and dare not to do any thing until more free time in late August. This would give me a full month to decide next move. Will post some photo later

[#621] Quad ESL Dennis, Congratulations again. Hope you could try them as soon as possible, and also the Rupert stand and see how they change the soundstage. If there is a cloth on the ESL, don't hesitate to cut it off. Yes, you will have to cut because it is stapled together with the metal grille.
