[#703] Quad ESL Dear User, any advice on the use of power cable??? ------------------ Dear Powercord, I am not sure about power cable. I have been using just a PC power cord and it sounded acceptable for me. I do agree with your opinion on sonic differences between ESL57 serviced by One Thing and Quad UK. I have a feeling that One Thing tend to improve the bass response. But it was very tricky, a slightly over on the bass will weaken the transparency and ruin the soundstage. That was the main reason I decline to work on improving the bass such as stack them up or add a subwoofer etc.. But one thing I'm almost sure it will improve the sound quality on ESL57 is to un-dress it. After I acquired my much newer ESL57 and sold my previous much older one. I missed very much the sensational feeling on the same peice of music played by my old ESL. My old ESL57 was un-dressed. In fact, I have never installed the front grill on the old one. It looks very ugly naked but sounded good.

[#704] Quad ESL I guess I am now in the same situation where cp took his ESL delivery on the first day. Probably it will need another 100 hours to break in the speakers. __________________________________________________________________________________________ Dennis, I guess your OTA ESL57 need a very vigorous burning in. If you do not have the time and space to run in your speakers, noting your lovely baby at home, I will be more than happy to run in your speakers for you at my workshop.

[#706] Quad ESL Dennis 3 pairs may need a space a bit too wide for your luxurious apartment, but 2 pairs seem to fit pretty well. ![]()

[#708] Quad ESL I suggest Dennis to stack all three together. Just the look of it is sweeping enough. Never mind the sound!

[#716] Quad ESL dear cpsjj, are you the owner of the stacked Quad ESL57? I am still having a headache on how to design the frame for a stacked pair. Someone suggested that all of the panels should be on the same vertical plane, which is different from the Quad suggested way to built the frame. And it is a problem to build a frame with adjustable angle for the speakers. And for the height, if i raised them by 1 foot, then the whole thing would be too tall. Any idea? Thanks

[#717] Quad ESL powercord No, I do not have the stacked Quad. I'll like a make a pair one day but at the moment I'm still struggling to get the best out of the single Quad. In my opinion, I don't think the stacked Quad should have a common vertical axis in view of the Quad's very narrow vertical dispersion pattern. But since I have not tried, my comment is only theoretical. Mind you only those theories which could be proven by experiments are eligible for Nobel price nomination. But I reckon those theoretical phycists who are still not eligible could be the best, just like Stephen Hawking; because their theories are still not fully understood by others. An example of an adjustable frame is like this. It shouldn't be too difficult to design and make. ![]()
