I still, up to this date, have not opened the front grill yet. Do you notice there is a tiny arc on the treble panel on one speaker? The other one is perfect without any arc on all panels.  |

| [#1391] Quad ESL jcml......I never worry about arced or damaged panel, because I know how to rebuild them and have successfully done so. The material required is not hard to find. In fact, parts for the complete speaker is not hard to find. So dealing with ESL57 is never pain in the neck! |

| [#1393] Quad ESL Sorry for my erroneous message below. I just looked up my restoration job writeup on page 8 where I talked about the low bass voltage readings. The specs for the diodes should be in KV not Amps as I posted earlier. The 1N4007 are 1kv types and I upgraded my ladder to 5kv diodes. After this, I was able to get the bass panel voltages right. |

| [#1395] Quad ESL Thanks to CP and Edmond for loaning me the rectifiers for trial with my Cary CAD-300SE. They are all sounded better than my 5U4GB. I played Jimmy Roger's "Blue Bird", Doug MaLeod's "Rolling&Tumling" and "A Cup Of Sweet Tea" the 新彊 folk songs sung by 伽菲珈而. The voice of Jimmy Roger and Doug MaLeod were so emotional I felt like he is almost crying. The guitar was so clear and true that sounded like he was playing just in front of me. The 新彊 folk songs were smooth like silk. The rectifiers I tried were: 1. 5R4WGY from CP 2. 5R4GY from CP 3. CV378 from Edmond 4. 5U4G from Edmond The CV378 sounded the best!!! Very smooth and emotional. 5R4GY the 2nd, sounded clean and smooth. 5U4G and 5R4WGY sounded about the same. The are all better than the 5U4GB I am using. I wonder what is best way to buy a good pair of CV378 and a pair of 5R4GY. E-bay? Tube Depot USA? or local? Thanks again for advices from Tim, CP, Edmond & Gingers...... Regds |
