[#1449] Quad ESL Limage, I guess you have not yet mastered the computer skills: mouse-right-click on a photo to show the URL of the photo mouse-dragging on the URL - to select the URL "Control-C" - to copy the URL Open a R33 reply window and at the "http//.." line, mouse-drag the "http//.." to select it and then press "Control-V" - to paste and replace the redundent "http//.." with the URL that you have copied to the memory of your PC. Try the steps! :) If still cannot master, one day when we meet at a place with a PC, I show you how to do.

[#1453] Quad ESL I was listening to the Scheherazade with Ansermet/Orchestre de la Societe des Concerts du Conservatoire, which as I remember, is more songful than the one with Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. I thoroughly enjoyed the most dissolving and songful story telling of the first 3 movements with extremely good stereo image, soundstage and layering. However, halfway through the 4th movement which I equally enjoyed, I found it was in mono! Anyone with the same disc or the original LP can tell me whether it has the same phenomenon? ![]()

| [#1457] Quad ESL This London Blue-back is a flat edged version of a great version of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade" with Ernest Ansermet conducting the Paris Conservatoire Orchestra. This is a sterling version of this great war horse. This is a FFSS , deep groove, wide band, red and silver label. The vinyl is MINT on both sides. The cover is VG++ with a small amount of edge wear. This recording is considered one of the best ever in the stereo era, right after the Reiner version. It is a nice comparison to hear the two. Please view all of the recordings I currently have on e-bay for auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4864908569&category=306&fkxs=1 ------------------------------------------ This recording is considered one of the best ever in the stereo era, right after the Reiner version. | [#1458] Quad ESL Not written by me :) http://www.amazon.com/Ernest-Ansermet/dp/B00005UUOY --------------------------------- One of the best of EMI's Great Conductors releases, this features the Swiss maestro performing the Modern, French, and Russian music in which he excelled. The first disc includes a terrific 1956 version of Stravinsky's Chant du Rossignol, brilliantly recorded, full of bold rhythms and atmospheric scene-painting, illustrating Ansermet's long experience as a ballet conductor. The Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade that follows it is the second of Ansermet's three recordings of the piece, from Decca's first 1954 Paris stereo sessions and still sounding good. Ansermet captures all its moods and colors, from the tension of the first movement to the flowing, languorous Orientalisms throughout. Bartuk's Concerto for Orchestra is a well-judged, energetic interpretation. Rachmaninoff's Isle of the Dead derives from the same sessions as the Scheherazade, and captures its brooding quality with a rare transparency, another trait of Ansermet's conducting. His affinity for French music is heard in a lovely version of Debussy's Prmlude j l'apros-midi d'un faune, a sparkling Ravel La Valse (which, like the Stravinsky, he premiered), and a scintillating "Fote Polonaise" from Chabrier's Le Roi malgrm lui. Most of the set's contents remain among the better versions of these works, so its appeal extends beyond the ranks of conductor collectors and Ansermet fans. --Dan Davis |

[#1459] Quad ESL So that means the Scheherazade should be in stereo. But I can swear the last movement is in mono although the layering is equally brilliant. Is there a problem with my system or my ears?

[#1462] Quad ESL This recording is considered one of the best ever in the stereo era, right after the Reiner version __________________________________________________________________________ But the Ansermet/Conservatoire de Paris is much more consonant, just like sitting down quietly and listen to a fairy tale. The Reiner one is more exciting with better resolution, i.e. more hi-fi. Use to show off only.
