| [#146] QUAD ESL speaker service Hi, dear all ESL users and lovers, I guess the seller is asking over $10K but definitely under $20K. Choice Hifi will contact the seller and advise us the offering later. So brother (or sister) adyc, please be patient for a moment. I think this pair is worth considering as I was told that this pair is in decent condition hence needing no refurblishing work. Of course, don't trust any saying until seeing and listening test. I'd paid $10K for my pair after price negotiation few month ago. I'd already spent another HK$17000 to replace the weak EHT boards. I just bought a new pair of Nordost SPM cable under $20K to compliment the high ESL sonic quality. I am also considering to spend another few thousands on a proper Arcici stamd later. I would consider every of my investment is worthwhile because the ESL is one kind of the best on this planet. Personally, I haven't heard of any other speaker under $300K myself sounds better than the ESL yet. Don't forget, the ESL needs no expensive amp as entry. I am driving my ESL using Linn Lingo LP12 + QUAD II/22 or Mcontosh MR71 / cheap DVD + Cyrus 3i solid state amp, both can attain satisfying results. Don't make it wrong, the ESL speaker still demands for the highest quality front end and amplification if you want a true high-end system. The positioning is difficult indeed. I am still struggling hard to com[promise for best stereo imaging and sound stage. May need your high-hand people hands to help in this aspect later. Good day. Dennis |

| [#148] QUAD ESL speaker service It's really a tough war to me to get the ESL positioned properly addressed. Let me describe my problem case by case. When playing the Julsang on side 2 of the Cantate Domino LP (the white cover), I can hear the voice of soprano drifting to the right side from time to time. The focus of other vocal LP tends to stay slightly away from the centre line. I have swapped my speakers and even my amplification so I am pretty sure it's all about how sensitive the ESL are responding to my listening room's limitations. Moving or toeing the ESL 1/2 cm will dramatcially change the stereo image of the sound stage. The adjustment of tilting angle is another headtache, one can completely change the sound stage by tilting forward or back by one cm. A very challenging pair of speakers!!! You may question how I place my ESL. My ESL are sitting about 6 feet away from rear window with full length heavy curtain behind from wall to wall. The ESL are at least 7 feet apart, center to centre. Both apeakers have 4 to 6 inches room away from rear walls. Still experiencing the rear distance and toeing angle. How's your ESL? Any challenge yet? Still struggling or settling down now with best imaging? Dennis |
