[#1725] Quad ESL speaker My brother-in-law, who runs a music college in Johor Bahru, is diagnosed to have colorectal cancer. Chances are I'll be going back and forth between National University of Singapore and Johor... CP and Patrick are welcome to take my toys home and have a good time with them. The moral of the story --- if you can’t spend time with your mistresses, buy all means send them to your friends and let them have a great time….

[#1726] Quad ESL speaker feikeung...................sorry to hear about that. Nowadays recovery from colorectal cancer is very optimistic. The motto given to me by a girl classmate I admired when I left primary school when signing up those stupid memory books was still popular was "Thou shalt not commit adultery". So I'll sit back and watch you play rather when you will be in my workshop.

[#1729] Quad ESL speaker Patrick, I am pretty sure my ESL are now in proper 100% working condition as you witnessed yesterday. I believe they will last for another decade or two without the need changing spareor repair. May I express my biggest thank to you and Edmund for all your effort fixing my treble panels and EHT boards. How wonderful you are!!! My next move is to clean up the glue on the front grille and repray with new paint. My better half asks for champagne gold. Will look for the color in model shop.

[#1730] Quad ESL speaker Patrick, I am glad you and CP have accepted my ESL's performance at true 57 standard. Thanks to your master piece of restoration work. Owe you too much. I have a feeling that the ESL63 will perform very close to ESL57 in terms of musicality because these are the only two genuine ESL descendents originated from the master, Peter Walker. With one true dipole whilst the 57 is only considered as semi-dipole, I would not hesitate to find out more when both singing happily side by side. I am sure the day CP's workshop will be full-housed again despite the huge floor space of 800 sq feet. Now CP must be very happy with his ESL kingdom.

[#1731] Quad ESL speaker Dennis......You are most welcome. It is my pleasure to work on your ESL57. I'll be more than happy to help you to clean up the glue, apply a coat of primer and spray the metal grille for you. Just let me know when. I'll have my tool box ready. I think you probably right that the ESL63 will perform very close to ESL57. I was very impressed the other day when we 1st turned the ESL63 on in CP's workshop. It sounded ever better when CP tilt it upward. Tonal quality is comparable with the 57. CP is correct that it must be tilt up and un-dressed in order to get the best sound out of it. I wouldn't sell my ESL63 10 years ago if I knew this trick. I can't wait to have Feikeung's ESL63 bass panel rebuilt and drive it with the Graaf OTL amp. May be we can try double-ESL63 to see how it goes! Regds

[#1733] Quad ESL speaker Doctorjohn, yes I am the guy at Lai King. Is the 509 still working well for you? PCS100, nice to meet you, shall invite you when the exact time with Dennis is fixed. However expectation with Croft should not be high. Compare with Graaf which is a Ferrari equvalent, Croft is only an Austin Morris.

[#1734] Quad ESL speaker CP and Patrick are welcome to take my toys home and have a good time with them. ------------------------------------------ Thanks Feikeung, I would like to borrow yr Graaf which already on hand CP's workshop and yr Audio Research Pre-amp. I will take good care of them and shall returned to their owner upon demand. mda......Thanks for yr invitation. OTL is known for tonal quality, sound stage and detailed defination. Thanks for the chance of audition. I was trick by the radio DJ this morning. She reported the time erroniously saying the present time was 6:30 a.m. while it should be 5:30 a.m.. I thought it was 6:30 a.m. it's time to get up. Regds

[#1735] Quad ESL speaker feikeung, Your pair of Magnepan have different tilting angles. I'm trying to bend the legs to align them. Which angle is the standard or the one your preferred, the more tilted backward one or the more vertical one?
cpsjj 203.xxx.xxx.26 |
2006-10-26 11:54 |
[#1736] Quad ESL speaker cp, I think the ones which are more vertical are more proper. Magnepan = poor workmanship

[#1738] Quad ESL speaker mda: Actually my own listening experience tells me your Croft is better sounding than the Graaf! More transparent! I have to call you, something to discuss with you.

[#1739] Quad ESL speaker Wow! In that case I have to beg for the opportunity to listen to the Croft. I was very impressed with Graaf's transparency and openness with my first encounter in Excel when the Graaf combo GM13.5/GM100 was driving a pair of Revel with DAT as source. Later the speakers were changed to Eggleston and I ended up having bought the Eggleston.

[#1740] Quad ESL speaker cp: That was for stimulation. I only listened to the Graaf 20 in second hand shops, not in Excel, and I was never able to hear any transparency. Maybe something wrong with them.
