[#81] Harbeth Compact 7ES-3 Good choice! Peter. Curious to know what speaker stand you finally chose? Before rush to tube amp, suggest you should give your C7ES3 more time to break-in. Although Harbeth is not the warmest speaker I have ever heard, thinness is definitely not the word I would use to describe it. One more question, does version ES3 still support biwire or just single wire? I heard Harbeth will abandon biwire in future version, just want to confirm that. Personally I prefer single wire too. |

[#84] Harbeth Compact 7ES-3 Hi Pete, Welcome to Harbeth Family. When you listen the music from Harbeth. Yon can't stop the music. I have play the harbeth by SS AMP and Tube AMP, I think I would like that with SS AMP, because the speakers have warm and rich midrange sound enough. Just my opinion. |

[#85] Harbeth Compact 7ES-3 congrad pete, i think u are among the 1st having es3 speakers. i agree with others that ss amp is a better match, with tube amp (of course result varies with different brand) i'm concerned the sound may become too soft. i'm just curious about the change in sound over the es2 model, if u have tried them as well? |

[#87] New C7-ES3 Thanks guys. M40> Yes, the C7ES-3 now comes in single wire which I also prefer. I listened for 2 hours last night and I seemed never get enough of it. The sound just keep getting better and better that I don't think I need to get the vintage MC240. Pls don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying that the Harbeths sounded thin to me. May be my ears got used to hearing Audio Note's 300B amplifier and their speakers which also sound very warm and thick. It's all a matter of relative really. For your information, my setup is as follows: 1. Souce: Audio Note CDT Two/I CDP + Dac2.1 signature (Aural Symthonics Echelon digital RCA cable). Dac to Preamp using AN-VX interconnect. 2. Audio Note M6 mk II phono preamp + Roksan Capian monoblock (100w) power amp. Connected by AN-VZ interconnect. 3. Roksan--> Harbeth using AN Lexus speaker cables. The speakers stands were made by a local stand manufacturer that only cost me $1,600. And I think they are quite worth the money. As can be seen above, my source and amplifications are more of a warm side to the neutral. So if I want to get a warmer or thicker sound, I think I should consider about changing the AN-VZ interconnect to AN Lexus interconnect which are made of copper. But as M40 has pointed out, it's too early to judge the tonal balance of the Harbeths as they have not been broken in yet. I should be able to get a more accurate assessment after 3-4 weeks or so. mahi>The salesman told me that ES-2 has a sweeter high frequency whereas the ES-3 has more balanced sound overall. So it's matter of personal taste really. pumbaa> The display price is HK$19,800 (that's what the saleman was telling me although I didn't see it). But I paid a lot less than that because a friend of mine knows the salesman pretty well, so I got a good discount for it. I think your educated guess is just right in that they are charging about HK$18,000+ to outside public. At this price, I think they are worth every penny of it. |

[#88] New C7-ES3 Dear Pete, Great to know that you get what you need. The gears with 100W output is ok for harbeth speakers. Why you choose C7 instead of SHL5? Last time when we chat over phone understood that you were searching for SHL5. I got SHL5 and driven by Linn amp. I really want to hear your C7 setup and check the difference. |

[#89] New C7-ES3 phono> pardon me for asking, are you sure we have had a chat over the phone before as I don't seem to recall that?? Anyway, I chose C7 because I think this would give the best result given that my listening room only measures 11'x21'. For SHL5, I think you need much bigger room in order to get the best result. We hear a lot of good things about Linn but personally I'd much prefer a good tube preamp presiding at the heart of the system. |

[#91] New C7-ES3 yeewaishun There are not too many distributors in HK, I think Yau shing is reasonable, try to bargain with cash price instead of EPS or credit card, u may get 3% extra! Of courese, u can post for a second hand goods here, most harbeth fans keeps their speakers in excellcent conditions. |

[#93] New C7-ES3 While the latest is the C7, I just digged out a pair of HL Compact which are from the early 80s, still working fine and sounded very good, the size is really big compare to the spendor S3 i replace it with and they sounded like they are from two diffent world. driven by Nait 5i |

[#95] Harbeth 同好會 Harbeth hing, We care. Lovely brand and lovely sound. I have 1 P3ES-2 bird-eye veneer version. Recently, after not listening to it for many months, I took it out and let in run in again. Frankly speaking, I personally feel that P3 and 3/5a are very much different from each other (though some said P3 could replace or be a substitute, I very much doubted); 3/5a has more about its signature sound and P3 has not but rather conventional towards the U.K. sound. Nevertheless, this is a good speaker, in good tonal balance and musical. I appreciate its design and the continuous development put into it by the company (from beginning to now). |

[#97] Harbeth 同好會 To be franked, once I managed to get my Harbeth sings, I care much less about hifi hardware but spending more time on searching good music, good CDs, different conductors, performers, music genres and labels as well as discovering infamous composers works. I think it is quite common amongst Harbeth users. More a music lover than a equipment freak. |

[#98] Harbeth 同好會 Anybody can share their experience on M30. I've bought a pair of M30 1/2 years ago. Original objective is to overcome all the weaknesses of LS3/5a (Weak bass)and P3-es2(less sweet than LS3 but more natural bass). No matter how hard I try; change cables, change jumpers, seems can't have all the strength of theose speakers. Any people can share if u also own LS3/P3 as well as M30? |
