[#1063] Quad ESL limage, A child's play needs a child to play. I quite like Peter Maag on Mozart. Mravinsky's Tchaikovsky is a classic.

[#1064] Quad ESL Anyone read the recent article on HFN on the mix-and-match comparison between Quad ESL57, ESL989, and original Quad II, Quad II Classic and Quad II-40? The conclusion for the best combination is ESL57 + Quad II Classic! Surprise?

[#1065] Quad ESL The conclusion for the best combination is ESL57 + Quad II Classic! Surprise _______________________________________________________________________________ Very surprising indeed. I think Patrick has tried this combination and didn't like it; Dennis will certainly protest with the strongest repudiation. Would be very interested to take a look.

[#1067] Quad ESL I do not find Maazel’s Tchaikovsky moving at all ___________________________________________________ Perhaps the VPO strings are too sweet for the Tchaikovsky symphonies, in particular the last 3. In my opinion, all Tchaikovsky symphonies require a rougher edge in the strings to reflect his credo to the core, i.e. his agonized life by the most severe self-doubts.

[#1073] Quad ESL Has anyone got a pair of QUAD II classic for our one day try out? Listening is believing. Our mind is open and I would cetainly switch to classic if it proved to be superior. One issue I am rather puzzling...., the nominal impedence of ESL is 15 Ohm and I think QUAD II classic only provides 8 ohm for modern speaker like 988. So how the hell can the classic model match with ESL in the HFN shoot-out??

[#1074] Tchaikovsky "...Perhaps the VPO strings are too sweet for the Tchaikovsky symphonies, in particular the last 3..." The VPO is excellent under Gergiev in the 5th! As a matter of fact I like most of Gergiev's recordings with VPO and much less his with the Kirov! The Pictures is another one. The BPO is not paticularly great in tchaikovsky either, but the BPO/Ozawa account is excellent, and usually I don't like Ozawa.

[#1081] Quad ESL mix-and-match comparison between Quad ESL57, ESL989, and original Quad II, Quad II Classic and Quad II-40 Patrick has tried this combination and didn't like it ---------------------------------- CP...... In fact the Quad II classic re-issue and ESL57 combo sounded good. I let go the Quad II classic merely on personal taste basis. My favorite music most of them are vocalist and small qty of chamber. Actually, what I ask is very simple. I only want to "SEE" the singer performing in front of me, right in the middle of the stage, with simple musical instruuments all at their exact position. I also want to hear the voice coming out from the muscular throat of an human being, and not from a speaker. The speaker should also be completely disappear in front of me. That's all I ask! Not much, Isn't it? regds

[#1082] EMI Great recordings of the Century Indeed I also find much of this Great Recordings series not too good sounding. I have the Klemperer Brahms symphonies in this series. Shhut-in and a far cry from the LPs. Strangely, the ART process sounds better on the much cheaper ENCORE series. I don;t understand.
