[#1524] Quad ESL Any comments on Emporium's ESLs on Ebay, please? ---------------------------------- The 1st thing you need to do after you bought it is to remove the black cloth covering the front grill. That cloth ruins the sound quality completely!!!

[#1525] Quad ESL CP, Sorry didn't take any picture as I dismantled the entire setup last night after critical review by HC Lee and Blue-ray. What a frustration! I initially attempted to relocate the ESL to the mid of the living room, such that both ESL are 9 feet away from the rear wall (the wall between the kitchen and dinner area) and facing the living room area. Well the result, a deep and high sound stage was obtained but completetly 全無定位!!! All intruments seemed drifting in the air despite repeated efforts on adjusting both the tilting and toe-in angle. I guess the problem was related to the irregular rear boundary formed by the 4' wide entrance corridor and the 7' wide rear wall behind. Anyway, I have to abandon this new speaker location idea and revert to the old and familiar position when day off this Sunday. I think I can push the ESL 6 feet from the rear wall at most. Well will experiment the ideas provided from Feikeung and Limage. I think most likely I have to adpot Limage's method simply of the narrow room size and certainly can afford the luxury to move the speakers to the centre of the living room like your place. Will try Feikeung's suggestion to place the speakers away from side walls but given with less than 11' wide room.... Feikeung, you must be asking me to catch worm to my ... Rcwy is absolutely correct, we need to first find out the focal points for the speaker. To me, only bear with a typical living room and a family of 5 in HK, 談可容易!! You, Richard and Limage are lucky guys, owning your private music room.

[#1527] Quad ESL Dennis, 11Ft won't do the ESL-57 justice. It's about time to knock off the side wall.....

[#1528] Quad ESL Feikeung, In such case, my philipino domestic helper or me myself will have to sleep in the kitchen. Haha. It's painstaking to knock off the side wall. Give me some more time to fix up the system and study the possible placement. Hope to achieve 70% to 80% best from ESL. I guess ESL is one different kind of transducer between Maggie and most box speakers given its half dipole nature and limited bass quantity. The Maggie demands a huge rear breathing space for excellent imaging while most box speakers somehow requiring a certain amount of toe-in angle for optimal sound stage. Will first try out the best possible (yes, best possible only) focal point as suggested by rcwy but rear distance restricted within 7 feet away from rear wall. Apart from yours and Limage's suggestion, I would also experiment some other hybid ways to position my ESL. Will tell more in the following week. Ah, I forgot to mention that I need to add some sound absorbant at later stage as reminded by Patrick. 無法子,家塗四壁,no carpet and all four boundaries are concrete blank wall. I guess my little baby girl will draw me more wall picture while she's growing up.

[#1529] Quad ESL Dennis, You'll be surprised by the difference an additional 3FT makes. No amount of tweaking will "liberate" the ESL-57s and make them shine as having proper room acoustics.

[#1531] Quad ESL cp, We three (me, Patrick and Edmund) will and try matching Patrick's Cary amp and Edmund's Tannoy gold tomorrow morning. Will follow by visiting a ESL63 user in Tai Po tomorrow afternoon in an attempt to exam his ESL63 with zizi problem (we suspect voltage or current leakage). Probably will need to send in his ESL63 to your workshop (ER?) tomorrow morning for further examination and treatment. Please keep contact.

[#1536] Quad ESL j_l, Frankly, I don't have much details even the patient's address. Haha, I am only the ambulance driver and all details are in the hand of our chief consultant. I guess we may arrive in cp's workshop say by mid afternoon. Will confirm the arrangement to CP once we met the host of the ESL63 in mid day.
